She may not be the most mature Celebrity Babe featured on Bullz-Eye, but she's certainly one of the most talked about young actresses swimming her way through the industry as we speak, and Katie Holmes isn't about to stop any time soon. Unrightfully compared to singer-turned-actress Mandy Moore in both looks and script decisions (they even each filmed a movie about the president's daughter in the same year), Katie is by far the most talented and graceful of the two. Don't expect much from Katie. She's neither flashy nor full of herself, but she's also not one of the best young actresses in the business. Born in 1978 in Toledo, Ohio, Katie had no intentions of becoming an actress until her mother enrolled her in a local modeling school. During a summer off from attending the all-girls Catholic high school, Katie was invited to a modeling convention in New York City where she was introduced to a talent scout who encouraged the girl-next-door to spend the rest of her vacation auditioning out on the West Coast.
Katie's talent for acting must have come naturally, because within no time, the young teenager was cast in director Ang Lee's critically acclaimed drama, "The Ice Storm." After filming the movie, Katie returned back home to finish with school, but the casting agents quickly came knocking on her door with plenty of fresh opportunities, including the role of Buffy in the WB's "Buffy The Vampire Slayer ." Katie turned down the role and opted to spend her last year in high school working on a local theater production, but the most important decision of her career struck just months later when she overheard news of "Scream" writer Kevin Williamsons' plans to produce a teenage drama series called "Dawson's Creek." Katie jumped at the chance by sending him a home video audition displaying her very best, and Williamson was so impressed with Katie's performance that he completely rescheduled the first week of shooting in order for her to fulfill her prior commitments with the theater production back home.
Due to the instant success of the series, Katie became an overnight sensation and was thrust onto the big screen in the teen thrillers "Disturbing Behavior" and "Teaching Mrs. Tingle." Okay, so maybe she got off to the wrong start, but she soon picked up the pieces and became much more careful with her script choices. Appearances in the Oscar-winning "Wonder Boys" and Sam Raimi's "The Gift" introduced Katie as a serious actress and, since then, she has become a pleasure to watch on screen.
